Vinyl & Valves

The audio chain matters more than the frame rate.

Vinyl & Valves puts the speakers first and lays the desk out around them. That means an equilateral triangle between you and the drivers, decoupling anything that resonates, and accepting that the best listening position and the best monitor position are the same spot — which is convenient.

Questions people ask

Where should desktop speakers sit relative to your head?
Tweeters at ear height, angled inward so the two speakers and your head form roughly an equilateral triangle. Speakers sitting flat on a desk fire at your chest and lose the high frequencies that carry detail, which is why stands or angled pads make an audible difference.
Do isolation pads under speakers do anything measurable?
They decouple the cabinet from the desk, which stops the desktop acting as an additional resonating surface. On a hollow or thin desk the difference in low-mid clarity is obvious; on a heavy solid top it is much smaller.
