Clean Room

White, bright and slightly clinical, on purpose.

Clean Room is built for people who are on video a lot. Bright, even, front-biased light; light surfaces that bounce it back; minimal contrast so a webcam’s automatic exposure has nothing to argue with. The trap is glare, so every surface has to be chosen matte.

Questions people ask

Why do white desks cause problems on video calls?
A large bright surface below the camera bounces light up under the chin and can push a webcam’s automatic exposure down, darkening your face. A matte finish reduces the effect; positioning the key light in front rather than overhead removes most of what remains.
How much light do you actually need for a good webcam image?
More than a room lit for comfort. Most webcams need the subject noticeably brighter than the background to avoid grain, which usually means one dedicated front-facing light rather than relying on the ceiling fixture.
